Increasing turns during busy times.

Arrivals, transitions, etc...most times of day in a classroom feel busy. But even the busiest moments offer opportunities for interactions.

During busy times, focus on quick, intentional interactions.

  • Greet each child by name and make one connection:
"Hi, Beth! I’m glad you’re here! What did you notice on your way in today?”
  • Narrate what’s happening:
“We’re walking to the carpet. I see you stepping carefully!”
  • Encourage peer-to-peer conversation:
“Genna tried something new — has anyone else tried a new food lately?”

Take advantage of activities where one-on-one interactions are standard.

  • Toileting, clothing changes, hand washing, zipping jackets, tying shoes...etc.

  • These little moments may be short, but there's always enough time for a quick conversation.
