Family Consent

Consent helps families understand and participate in LENA Grow.

1. Download and distribute Family Consent forms

Download the appropriate opt-out* consent form:

Customize the form with your organization's information. Modify it as needed to comply with any organizational, legal, or local requirements.

Distribute the consent form to classroom families.

2. Support teachers in sharing information with families

Support teachers in helping families learn about LENA Grow and answer questions about the program.

  • Post the Family Recruitment flyer English | Spanish on a school or classroom bulletin board.
  • Share the Family webpage English | Spanish in a weekly newsletter or app communication.
  • Encourage teachers to to discuss the program with families during pick-up or drop-off.

3. Collect and track consent forms

Set a clear deadline for returning consent forms and communicate it to families and classroom staff.

  • Keep a list of which families have returned forms.
  • Send a reminder before the deadline.
  • Check in with families who have questions or need additional information.

Before the first LENA Day, verify that all consent forms have been received and that any children whose families chose not to participate have been identified.

*Opt-Out vs. Opt-In Consent
The standard LENA Grow consent form is opt-out. This means all children are included unless a family returns the form indicating they do not want their child to participate.

If required by your organization, opt-in forms are also available. With opt-in consent, families must actively return the form to give permission for participation.
