Help children wear the LENA vest

Leer en español

Wearing the LENA vest is new for many children. A gentle introduction can help children feel comfortable and prepare for a successful LENA Day.

Normalize wearing the vest
Read the Our LENA Day story (included in your Room Kit) to introduce the vest. We suggest reading it 2–3 times before the first LENA Day. Pass vests around for children to explore, or use an extra vest to dress a familiar stuffed animal.

Build excitement!
Let children customize their vests with stickers or markers. Just keep the device pocket clear. Some teachers even make up songs about putting on the vest!

Support sensory‑sensitive children
Try a soft undershirt beneath the vest, introduce the vest gradually, or let children explore before wearing it.

Adjust the fit: make it tighter or wider
Smaller vests have snaps that allow you to adjust the fit or even turn the vest into a onesie.

Larger vests are very stretchy. If needed, make a small cut in the center back of the vest to create more room for a larger child. It may feel strange to cut a LENA vest, but this is the best way to adjust the fit.
