7. Coaching With LENA Grow Reports (12 min)
Now that you have a better understanding of overall coaching session steps, let’s focus on a key part of the LENA Grow program — report interpretation and discussion! Reports help begin strengths-based conversations about what teachers' real-life classroom days are like, along with the experiences and behaviors of individual children.
LENA Grow uses the Room Report and the Child Report to help teachers develop a deeper understanding of classroom equity, gain insights into talk behavior, and set goals for future LENA Days.

The Room Report provides an overview of a LENA Day, helping teachers gain insight into the daily and hourly language environment of their classrooms. These are the primary reports used during the LENA Grow 1 Essentials sequence. Watch the video to learn more about LENA Grow’s Room Report.
The Child Report provides a detailed view of a specific child’s language experience. Use these reports to focus on a particular child’s hour-to-hour experience throughout the day. Although the Child Report can be used at any time throughout the program, we formally introduce it during the second sequence, LENA Grow 2 Insights. Watch the video to learn more!
What does a report conversation look like? Watch the video below to see how a coach uses the Coach Guide to structure a strengths-based conversation around reports. How does the coach:
- Actively listen?
- Identify and explore teacher strengths?
- Develop actionable goals?
- Create space for self-discovery?
If you want to follow along using your own materials, open your Coach Guide to Essentials Week 4 and download this sample report.
Remember, we are viewing the coaching session right after the coach and teacher discuss their LENA Day experience.
