Course Outline
6. Conducting a Coaching Session (6 min)
Coaching sessions are your opportunity to provide feedback, introduce new strategies, and support teachers as they increase interactions in their classrooms. These conversations are where the real magic starts to happen!
We use LENA Grow Essentials Week 1 below as an example, but this information can be applied to any week of the program.
Prepare
Prior to your coaching session, allow enough time to complete the following:
1. Review the pages for the session you will be conducting.
2. Complete Session Prep.
You are prepped! Now you are ready to facilitate learning and reflection!
Conduct Coaching Session
For the most part, the structure of each weekly coaching session remains the same throughout the sequence: discuss and review a LENA Day, discuss the weekly topic, set a goal for the following LENA Day.
- Regular weekly activities are shown in purple text. Activities in blue text indicates information that is new or different from week to week.
- Each activity is divided into steps. Each step is designated with a box.
- Materials and resources for each step are written in bold text and shown in an image to the left.
Let’s take a look at Essentials Week 1 activity by activity.
During your session, encourage teachers to follow along in their accompanying Teacher Guide — the comparable steps help teachers know what to expect during the coaching session and discuss everything in the time allotted.
Congratulations — your coaching session is complete!
