Why does LENA hide data?
How can I check the hidden data?
- On the Group screen, click the Children tab.
- Click the name of a child whose data you suspect is hidden.
- Click the Recordings tab.
- Scan the list for hidden recordings in the current group.
- Compare the dates of hidden and reported recordings to understand why data is hidden, and whether it should be made visible.
Unsure how to interpret the Recordings list? LENA Support can help. Send the group ID and a description of the problem.
When is it ok to unhide these recordings?
⚠️ Do not unhide a "make up" recording from an absent child.
Remind the teacher that the LENA Grow report reflects the language environment for the children present on that day. A make up is not valid. The absent child can participate on the next scheduled LENA Day.
- Hide each child's recording from the atypical day to remove it from reports.
- Unhide each child's recording from the replacement day.
💡 To avoid this situation, hide the atypical day before processing the replacement day.
2. Scheduling issue.
⚠️ Teacher must have a coaching session between the two LENA Days.
Progress does not come from recording – it comes from reflecting on data, setting goals, and identifying strategies.
If coaching did not occur before the later LENA Day, do not unhide it.
3. Wrong recordings were auto-hidden.
- Child has moved from a Thursday classroom to a Tuesday classroom, but LENA Online hasn't been adjusted yet. The teacher grabs his device from the original room's dock and starts a recording. His Tuesday data will be reported for the old group, and the other children's Thursday data will be hidden.
- Child "borrows" device from another classroom without reassigning...so her data goes to the other classroom. That other classroom's real day is later in the week, so it gets hidden.
- A device contains two recordings. Device is misplaced and not docked at the end of the day, then someone makes a short recording on it the next morning before docking. The shorter recording processes fastest and is mistakenly identified as the LENA Day. The actual LENA Day comes in later and is hidden.
If you need assistance sorting out what happened, or moving recordings to the correct classroom, contact LENA Support with the group IDs and a description of the issue.
