2. LENA Fundamentals: Turns and Tips (2 min)

“Conversational turns” are back-and-forth alternations between an adult and a child. LENA technology counts a turn when an adult speaks and a child follows, or vice versa, with no more than five seconds in between. Watch the video to learn more about how this powerful tool boosts early brain development.

In addition to conversational turns, LENA Start uses the 14 Talking Tips to help families boost interactive talk throughout the day. The 14 Talking Tips are simple, research-based strategies for increasing talk throughout the day. A copy is located in the Parent Guide.
