LENA Online for Home Visitors

Self-paced course for Home Visitors

3. Set up (5 min)

Your next steps are to prepare devices, add participants (children) and caregivers (adults) to your LENA Home group, and prepare for sharing session videos. Instructions for all of these tasks are in your Quick Start Guide. Refer to the guide as you move through this lesson. Please note, this lesson must be completed on a computer.

Prepare LENA devices for use.
Charge and check all devices so they are ready to use with families. You want the devices to be fully charged, empty, and free of errors before assigning. Detailed instructions (and a printable PDF on how to complete this process) can be found in the Tech Prep chapter of the Quick Start Guide.

Participant and caregiver setup.
Your administrator has set up a group for you in LENA Online. View your group on your program dashboard and in the drop-down context menu in LENA Online. (Refer back to the dashboard training section if you need a refresher on the context menu.) If you do not see a group set up for you in LENA Online, check with your program manager to ensure it has been added and that your user account has been connected.

Complete the following steps for each participant on your caseload:

  1. Add a new participant.

  2. Add a caregiver with a texting number or email address.
Make sure to add texting phone numbers for any family that will be using online Snapshots, receiving session videos before virtual sessions, or receiving automated report links.

  3. Assign a prepared device to each participant.
Check with your program manager to determine if you will be assigning one or two devices per participant. After assigning in LENA Online, label each device with the child’s name. Store assigned devices with other family materials for your upcoming home visit.
Prepare session videos (if needed).
To prepare LENA Home videos for in-person sessions, follow the steps in the Tech Prep chapter of the Quick Start Guide. If planning to share videos virtually with families ahead of time, review the instructions in the LENA Home Sessions chapter of the Quick Start Guide.
