Choose a Computer for LENA Device Processing

Identify a computer that meets LENA Hub technical specifications and supports your workflow.

noun_Question_1033615Should a devices be processed on a site's computer, or on the coach's computer, or some combination?

The answer is: Choose what works best for your situation, as long as the computers meet the technical requirements.

Technical Requirements

LENA Hub must be installed on a computer that meets specs.

Enlist help from IT support staff

GrowRequirementsThumbnailIf the preferred computer is managed by IT support staff, give them the System Requirements as soon as possible. They can confirm the selected computer is up to the task, or identify a better option.

In many cases IT will also have to help with the installation. (It's easy and quick, but probably requires their special password.) LENA technical support is here to answer any questions they may have.

If your computer is not managed by IT support staff...

We've compiled some tips for non-techies to determine if their computers will work.

Practical Considerations

Processing devices requires staff attention for 1-2 minutes per device, but the computer has lots of work to do after staff walks away – up to 20 minutes per child.

Choose a computer that:

  • Can remain powered on, plugged in, awake, and connected to the internet long enough to complete device processing (up to 20 minutes per child).
  • Is not needed for other tasks during LENA processing.
  • Can be situated on a surface with:Device Organization
    • enough room to hold the computer, devices, and Multi Docks.
    • enough available power outlets for the Multi Docks and the computer.
    • best available internet connection.
    • a chair.
    • no curious little fingers.

💡 Hub can be set up to hold transferred data and process it later – a good option if you want to use one computer to process devices from many locations during a day. Just be sure it can be left to complete the job in the evening.

Taking the time to identify the right computers and get IT staff on board will pay off in the end. As always, if you get stuck or have questions or concerns, LENA Support can help.
