Planning for LENA Grow

2. Roles and Responsibilities (3 min)

Your first launch step is to assign key program roles and responsibilities.

LENA Grow has two main roles: program manager and coach.

Program manager

  • Leads planning, implementation, and overall success.
  • Coordinates training, technology, and support.
  • Monitors progress.
  • Supports other roles.
  • Recruits partners and participants.
  • Is the LENA Online Account Owner.

Coach

  • Implements LENA Grow at a classroom level.
  • Spends about two hours per week per room, plus extra time for prep and device processing.
  • Facilitates weekly coaching sessions.
  • Helps teachers build skills and strategies to increase interactions.
  • Provides printed materials and reports.
  • Uses LENA Online to prepare and track progress.

Additional coach responsibilities are covered in lessons 5 and 6.

Tip: Train at least two coaches for your first sequence. If possible, the program manager can act as a coach once to gain hands-on experience.

Other responsibilities to assign:

  • Creating new users, groups, and sites in LENA Online. Usually, the program manager does this as the main account owner.

  • Adding coaches as Site Managers. This lets coaches create their own groups when ready. Discuss different user access options with your Partner Success Manager.

  • Providing local tech support. Someone should be available by phone or email to help with computer or LENA Online questions, especially on LENA Days or during processing.

If you own your LENA devices, you will also need to manage and distribute LENA Grow materials to coaches (like Coach Kits, Room Kits, and LENA clothing). For a full list of materials,  visit the LENA Library.

Answer the questions in your Planning for LENA Grow worksheet, section 2. Roles and Responsibilities. If you are not sure which staff may be available at this time, note that on your Planning with LENA Grow worksheet.
