Planning for LENA Grow

5. Plan for Technology (3 min)

Now let’s plan how you’ll use the technology. Good planning helps ensure devices are processed smoothly and without issues.

Between each LENA Day and coaching session, a staff member needs to process devices and wash the LENA vests. LENA recommends processing devices on site to save time.

Try to process devices as soon as possible after LENA Day, and at least one day before the coaching session.

Here’s a typical workflow:

Plan for Tech

If you haven’t recruited sites or providers yet, you might not be ready to choose a LENA Hub computer or finalize your processing plan. Still, it’s important to understand the requirements now, so you’re prepared when recruitment begins.

Plan your device processing.
As you plan, think about the following:As you plan, consider:

  • Set aside 30 minutes per room each week for hands-on processing and laundering vests.
  • The computer needs up to two hours of unattended time to process data.
  • You’ll need space for a computer, devices, a Multi Dock, and access to a power outlet — ideally somewhere out of children’s reach.
  • Decide who will process devices on site. Will the coach need to travel to do it?
  • It takes up to 24 hours after processing is complete for LENA Reports to become available.

Choose your LENA Hub computer.
Your processing computer must:

  • Be a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer no more than 2–3 years old. (Macs, tablets, and Chromebooks do not work with LENA.)
  • Have fast, reliable internet.
Be available for several hours each week for processing.

If you’re unsure about internet access, computer availability, or staff capacity, address these issues before your first LENA Day.

Still unsure if your computer will work? Use our step-by-step guidance to check whether it meets the requirements. Or share the LENA Grow System Requirements with someone who can help you evaluate it.
