The Room Prep Checklist contains detailed instructions for how to prepare each classroom for LENA Grow.
The graphic below is a visual representation of the Room Prep steps. Minimizing the time in between each step ensures you can begin your sequence as quickly as possible.
1. Prepare and Conduct Orientation At each recruited site, you will hold an Orientation to introduce participating teachers and staff to the program. All Orientation materials are provided, including customizable forms. We'll explore the content more in depth in the next lesson.
2. Complete Consent Ask teachers to send home consent forms immediately after Orientation. Families return the form only if they DO NOT want their child to participate. The form asks families to return within three days. We highly recommend using the Opt Out form. Visit the LENA Library to learn more.
3. Prepare Group in LENA Online Once the deadline has passed, collect participating child info. Using this information and the teacher information collected during Orientation, enter children, teachers, and classroom details into each of your classroom Groups in LENA Online.
You will need:
Each participating child’s first name, last name, date of birth, classroom.
Ask center directors to provide a spreadsheet of children in each classroom with first name, last name, and date of birth to make LENA Online entry easier.
4. Request Room Kits To request your LENA Grow Room Kit in LENA Online, you need:
All participating children and teachers entered into LENA Online (see previous step).
Age range of children. LENA will send a variety of vest sizes designed to fit that age range.
Room Kit language (English or Spanish).
Shipping address and email.
Consider where the Room Kit needs to be delivered — to you? To a main site? Directly to the classroom? Once you indicate you’re ready to receive your room materials, no further changes can be made! Double-check that all information is correct, then click the “I’m ready” button!
5. Receive Room Kits Your Room Kit will ship within two weeks. Tracking information will be provided. If the Room Kit is going directly to the classroom site, let the recipient know what to do when the box is delivered. (For example, open and review the materials, or wait for you to walk them through it in person.)
If you own your LENA devices, skip steps 4 and 5 above. Visit the LENA Library to prepare materials for your first LENA Day. Pack a bin with the prepared, assigned, and labeled LENA devices, labeled clothing, and instructions, and deliver to the room.
