Introduction to LENA Start

5. LENA Start Reports (4 min)

The LENA Start program provides two family reports: the LENA Report and the LENA Snapshot Report. An additional report, the Performance Report, is available to organizations after completing an entire Start sequence.

The LENA Report shows parents how much they really talk to and with their child. It also shows how many minutes their child heard mostly sounds from an electronic device (TV, radio, computer, phone, tablet, etc.). Additionally, the report displays the average amount of time parents report reading with their child during the week.

The LENA Snapshot is a parent questionnaire that measures a child’s language development. It is used with children between the ages of 2-36 months and takes about 5-15 minutes to complete. Families in LENA Start complete the Snapshot three times throughout the course of the 10-week group. Coordinators share a Snapshot report with parents showing how their child’s language development compares to other children of the same age.
