How to swap devices, add a second device, add a device to a new child, or deal with a problem device.
Device assignments can be adjusted mid-sequence by the Coach, Site Manager, or Account Owner. Here are some common situations and what to do. Click to jump:

New child added, needs a device.
Sometimes a child is added to the group after device assignments have been made, or even after the first LENA Day has occurred. No problem – the more the merrier!

Note: If the child was already participating in another group, she may have a device assigned already. You do not need to assign another device in this case, as long as you have the physical device in hand.
Children wore wrong devices.
Mix-ups happen! If you find out after processing, no need to change the assignments. Contact LENA Support and we'll help put the right data with the right child.
If you know about the swap before the devices are processed, simply swap or add assignments and then process the devices.

👉🏼 Don't worry about past data. New assignments affect what will be processed, not what has been processed already.
Child's assigned device is not working on LENA Day morning.
If a device wakes up with an error, is stuck on a weird message, or is unable to start recording, assign a spare device so the child can participate.
- Click into the Group screen, open the Children tab, and click child's name.
- Click Assign Device and type in the spare device serial number - here it's #17609.
- Then troubleshoot the original device (#16073 in this example), decide which device the child will use going forward, and unassign the other one.
Child moves to a different group during the sequence.
When the child is moved during the sequence, their device assignment comes along for the ride. If you have the physical device in hand, keep using it with the child. Otherwise, unassign the device and then assign a new one just as you would for a new child.
